Language Classes

(Sundays 10:20-11:15)

Hindi

Classes cover Varnamala , Matras, putting Hindi words together, conversational Hindi. Reading and writing Hindi. We use books from Hindi-USA based in New Jersey.

Kannada

Join us in exploring the beauty of the Kannada language! Through fun stories, songs, games, and activities, children will learn to speak, read, and write simple Kannada. This class helps kids connect with their cultural roots and develop a love for their heritage language in a joyful, age-appropriate way. All levels are welcome!
“Siriganadam gelge”

Tamil

Students will learn the Tamil alphabet and learn to phonetically use the sounds native to the Tamil language. Introduction to reading and writing simple words and learning to communicate in Tamil will the goal of this program. Students will have opportunity to practice Tamil (oral) at sentence level and they will be introduced to Thirukkural and other simple Tamil poems.
As students progress higher levels of reading/writing will be introduced.

Telugu

Classes cover Achulu, Hallulu, Guninthamulu, putting words and sentences together.Kids learn simple conversations, reading and writing. We get out text books from India and share the digital files with each class as appropriate.

Religious Classes

(Sundays 11:20-12:15)

Balvihar religious classes are grade-level specific and cover the shlokas, rituals, mythology, and philosophy as presented in ancient Hindu texts. Depending on the year they may learn how to conduct a puja, the stories of Rama and Krishna, or the importance of even-mindedness.

Kindergarten & Pre-K

Learn to identify Hindu Gods, hear mythological stories, learn simple shlokas, and understand simple human values.

1st Grade

Simple values taught through stories. Also, Indian culture, festivals, and temple etiquette will be covered.

2nd Grade

Understanding our rich cultural heritage through mythological stories.

3rd Grade

Introduction to Dasa Avatar stories from Bhagavatha Purana. Learn some basic values necessary & useful in daily life as well as about Indian culture.

4th Grade

Level 2 of Bhagavatham stories, different from Dasa Avatars. Also learn basic values necessary & useful in daily life as well as about Indian saints.

5th Grade

Learn Ramayana, identify the values that relate to present day, and learn to apply them in our daily lives.

6th Grade

Learn stories from Mahabharata and apply knowledge gained in daily life.

7th & 8th Grade

In this enriching two-year course, students will explore the depth and diversity of Hinduism alongside major world religions. Through interactive discussions, hands-on projects, and visits to holy places and houses of worship across Nashville, children will gain a deeper understanding of different faiths and cultures. This course fosters respect, curiosity, and a strong foundation in Hindu values while encouraging a global perspective rooted in unity and acceptance.

9th Grade

Basics of religions, Hinduism, and relevance in modern times. Understand ritualistic & philosophical aspects of religion and learn one Upanishad.

10th-12th Grade

Exploration of Vedanta in our daily life; study of Bhagavad Gita emphasizing Karma, Bhakti, and Jnana Yogas; review fundamentals of Hindu culture.
